Homes are like people, although similar they are all individual and different. When designing a custom home, it doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task. Either starting with a blank sheet of paper or modifying an existing plan, I like to start with the basics, number of floors, number of rooms, etc. then is the orientation of the rooms to each other and the property views, then what each room contains, etc. Through the process, the style and amenity level is also reviewed along with the budget to ensure the end result meets the owners needs and expectations. The construction details that you don’t see when the home is done are the same in every home, the overall size, architectural style, and amenity level are the only variables. Getting the needed details on the plans is critical so the sub-contractors actually installing the products have clear direction as to my expectations. I spend a lot of time on continuing education, building science, new product research and are constantly building a better mouse trap.
